Katy Perrys GHD Ad Campaign
I have wavy, frizzy hair. I always dreamed of having straight hair. (fact no 1) When theyre little, all wee girls learn about princesses and princes and mermaids! And they all love the beautiful mermaids (fact no 2). So marketing isnt all that complicated, after all! See below David LaChapelles photograph of Katy Perry as a mermaid for GHDs Ad Campaign. Hoping the new GHD Hair Straighteners (or their brand new hairdryer, GHD Air) dont add that horrifying red violet hue to your hair, besides flattening it out! (havent thought about that, GHD, huh?) Would You Buy Clothing From Geri Halliwells...
While Victoria Beckham has made into a very select couture circle, her Spice companions werent all that (fashion) lucky. We talked about Mel B having modeled for lingerie, now lets see what our favorite redheaded (whos now a blonde) Ginger Spice is doing! Geri Halliwell has a sartorial working collaboration with Next, a British retail chain. Included in clothing collection is this Union Jack line. Which you can see below. We all remember Geris Union Flag 1997 stage outfit which was actually a repurposed tea towel, an iconic dress in its own right. Now you can have all kinds of Union Flag items, just in time for the Olympic Games (and the Diamond Jubilee). And you know what? I think itll be a success! It wont be on fashion magazines covers like Victoria Beckhams collection, but it still is something! Would You Buy Clothing From Geri Halliwell’s Union Flag Collection?

Madonna Wears Givenchy to Perform at the Super...
Madonna has still got it. The Queen of Pop took center stage Sunday night with a over the top Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show performance. The icon commanded some serious attention in a variety of outfits designed especially for her by Givenchy Haute Couture’s Riccardo Tisci. She was brought onto the field by a royal precession in a hand-embroidered gold cape. As she stepped off her throne for a bit of “Vogue,” she unveiled an embellished black mini dress with a hand-studded belt; she also wore the look to perform with LMFAO, Nicki Minaj and MIA. She closed the twelve-minutes set be performing Like a Prayer with Cee Lo Green in matching black sequined ensembles; she donned an embellished black coat while he accessorized his cloak with men’s Christian Louboutin loafers. The designer previously outfitted the pop icon on her Sticky & Sweet Tour three years ago and was happy to see the consummate chameleon back onstage. People say everything has a limit, but limits do not exist with Madonna, saidTisci. I am so happy that she decided to go back on a music stage. Not only to bring us Music, but also to make such a statement of performance and fashion. And while her moves were a little rickety, his outfits caused a tremendous amount of buzz amongst the style set. How about those boots?

Your Next Pair of Jeans: 5 New Denim Looks
--By Kim Moshtaghi Every New Year's day the gyms seem more packed than usual and visitors seem to invade your hiking trails. New Year's resolutions are nice when you can stick to them, and even better when you have to squeeze into some sexy jeans after the holidays. February seems to be a realistic time to be able to fit back into your favorite jeans, or at least be open to buying a new pair. Jeans can definitely make or break you if you dont buy the right style for your body type. Here are some of my current favorite jeans picks for different body types.I am lovin' the Hudson Jeans Baby Boot boot-cut stretch denim. They're a lightly boot cut jean with a classic natural fade. It's a simple, sophisticated jean that will look nice paired with some sexy, striking stilettos. The back pockets are great for girls like me with a small booty, because the pockets give a booty illusion.→ Buy the Hudson Jeans Baby Boot Boot-Cut Stretch Denim Jeans, $189.00, at nordstrom.com; shipping and returns are free.Do you have a body like Victoria Beckham? If so, then check out these skinny jeans from Blue Essence. The black python print jeans are tight and are perfect for the petite gal that can pull off tight pants. This pair will look darling with a silk flowy top to create curve and even out the snug lower half.→ Buy the Blue Essence Python Print Skinny Jeans, $98.00, at nordstrom.com; shipping and returns are free.Next up is another pair of skinny jeans but you don't have to be Victoria Beckham to wear them. The black skinny jeans are simple and elegant. Pair with a bold color top for spring and funky pointy toed shoes and youre all set to head out. This is definitely a fun pant to play with and accessorize.→ Buy the Miss Me Denim Brand Sunny Skinny, $88.00, at missme.com.I, for one, like to wear funky jeans with some kind of bling or lace. I love Miss Me's pink lace designed jeans. The pink lace on the back of the jeans is fun and gives this pair of jean some life. Make sure to show off the creative side of this pant and tuck your shirt in. → Buy the Miss Me Lace N' Pink Cut Out Boot Cut, $98.00, at missme.com.Be the ultimate sassy girl with the Miss Me metallic soaring angel jean. I love the boot cut and the way this brand stretches, so make sure to get a snug fit because they will stretch a lot. Keep it simple with this pair and wear solid tops with some sexy wedges.→ Buy the Miss Me Metallic Soaring Angel Wing Boot Cut, $98.00, at missme.com._______Kim Moshtaghi is a contributing writer for Adventures in the Stiletto Jungle. Secrets of Stylists: Exclusive Interview with...
Fashion industry veteran Sasha Charnin Morrison gives you a glimpse inside the world of fashion and stylists with her amazing book, Secrets of Stylists: An Insider's Guide to Styling the Stars (published by Chronicle Books). As the current fashion director at US Weekly, Morrison has over 20 years experience working in the biz for such publications as Harper's Bazaar, Elle, Allure, Vanity Fair, and more. She has her finger on the pulse of trends and celebrity fashion, all with an amazing sense of humor. She loves a very high heel and if you follow her on twitter or tumblr, you'll see the many nuggets of fashion eye candy she'll share each day. What I love about Secrets of Stylists is that it goes deeper into what it takes to be a stylist. As an addict to the Bravo fashion stylist reality TV shows of Rachel Zoe and Brad Goreski, this book is a godsend. From the nitty gritty details of inventory to the drool-worthy trays of high-end jewelry and racks of gowns, Morrison gives you a complete in-depth look into this glamourous as well as tough as nails world. Even if you aren't looking for a career in fashion styling, the book gives you plenty of tips and advice on how to carve out your own personal style. I love, love, love all the photos of celebrities but what I love the most is the detailed photos she includes featuring sketches, supplies, array of outfits, and scribbled detailed notes a true behind the scenes peek at this fabulous world. Book Giveaway Just in time for fashion week! Two lucky Coquette readers will win a copy of Secrets of Stylists! Just leave a comment to this post. The giveaway ends this Friday, February 10th at 5pm PST. Good luck! I also got a chance to talk to Sasha Charnin Morrison and ask her some very important fashion questions. Click for the interview after the jump!Natalie: What are a few of your favorite styling tips that every woman should adhere to when dressing? Sasha: Fit is key. The clothing no matter what needs to fit you. Trends are fun but if it looks bad or "my ass looks fat" you are your best critic. You are probably right. Go with your instincts. Too tight? Dont buy it. Get your right size. Clothing sitting around and not being worn because you were going to lose weight to fit it-is expensive and useless. Theres so much you feel good about giving away. So, nip it right away. Get yourself to a great tailor if the shoulders are too big or the cuff of a jacket or pants are too long. Do not get sucked into dressing in whats not you or comfortable. I dont mean wearing "cozy" sloppy sweats. I mean dont go with a sharp tailored jacket that Rihanna wore and looks wrong on you. And really really educated yourself in buying accessories to change and update looks. Look online for tips. Make Google your best friend: How do you tie a scarf? How can I wear a leopard bootie? You can search all of this alone and then go out and try it. Natalie: Whenever I get my US Weekly in the mail, I always love eyeing all the great fashion. What are some of your favorite trends right now? Sasha: I will always love an olive parka and now with a fur scarf or collar or cuff. I love that always. I like these jersey maxi dresses from Rachel Pally and Wilt. And I love this fleece cocoon coat I own from Norma kamali. Motorcycle boots-either plain black or embellished. And really large sunglasses to hide my bags and an oversized or jumbo Chanel Classic bag. Natalie: How do you decided what celebrity or trend to feature in the red carpet opening spread in the magazine? Sasha: We really want the Red Carpet which usually opens the magazine to be truly a Red Carpet, aspirational/inspirational spread of the most stunning looks from the week. Very dressed up and beautiful at all times. It all needs to feel very V. I. P. The trends are pulled from street wear that celebrities wear, looks we think as a department are very strong for a season or useful-like the best underpinnings-slimmers that the stars wear...and looks for less. Hi/low. How everyone likes to mix it up. Natalie: What are the items from your closet that you cannot live without? Sasha: Azzedine Alaia hiking boots, Norma Kamali sweatshirt cocoon coat, Jersey tops, skirts and dresses from Rachel Pally and Wilt, Gap legging jeans in grey, a big, black knit eternity scarf from Gap, oversized sunglasses from Prada or Grey Ant and my 5000 bags. Natalie: Do you have advice for how a stylish gal can consistently dress up for an evening out on a budget? Sasha: Think about a look you want. Scan H&M, Forever21, Zara, Express, ASOS. All of these sites are reproducing looks for less and they suggest in little boxes what to pair with those dresses. But also plan how many parties you have and see how many looks youre going to need. What can you get away with wearing more than once. If you have one black dress, dress that up and down with different accessories, shawls, faux furs, cardigans. And switch the earrings to necklaces. You can always carry out the same evening bag. Natalie: Now that your book, Secrets of the Stylists is out, what are some of your projects you are working on now for the future? Sasha: I would love to possibly build on the Secrets concept, as well as writing another book involving inspiration. I like this book writing. :) I also am trying to learn as much as I can about digital media and building up my Twitter base as well as my tumblr sites. I have two: Casa De Sasha and Secrets of Stylists. The stylists tumblr is getting a few variations of things that were supposed to be in the book, that didnt make it and really amazing pictures of icons. I need to know about all of this stuff because I have boys who are 9 and theyre very computer savvy so I like keeping up with them. They teach me so much. They are my future!:) Read more about Sasha Charnin Morrison and her mom advice on Coquette Maman!

Mixing Prints in Real Life
"Anyone can mix prints, just pick & follow a unifying color!" Yeah, you've heard it, even from me! But let's face it, the average woman is not interested in spending more than 30 minutes getting dressed in the morning or repelling men. I think many in the fashion industry (including bloggers) forget that jeans and a tee is the weekend uniform for 90% of this country! So how do you try mixing prints in real life? There's a surprising answer: be subtle. I know you probably think subtly mixed prints is an oxymoron, but actually I've found that it's as easy as wearing one print article of clothing and one printed accessory, whether it's a belt, scarf, purse or shoes! You can pick a unifying color or mix one colored print with a black & white one - I suppose what you'd call a "neutral print."Here are three looks that are "mixed prints lite" and perfect for the woman that likes to look fashionable without obsessing over it!

Corsets! Finally!
Okay gang, I have one hour and thirty seven minutes before I have to be down in the little village of Popotla to wait for the fishermen to come in. Not, sadly, because I’m waiting for a sailor, but the fishing boats come in at noon and if I’m not there to fight tooth and nail with these surprisingly tough little Mexican grandmothers (I don’t know how you say “throw elbows” in Spanish, but I sure bet they do!) at the exact minute they splosh today’s catch on their ramshackle folding table, then the seagulls will get my dinner and frankly, I cannot live with that. As promised, here is a belated corset post with recommendations. Please note I don’t actually own any of these corsets, although I wish I did. I judged them based on apparent quality of construction, variety of product (as in: do they offer longline/underbust/cotton/bridal/whatever corsets) and how much the site annoyed me. My favorite by far is Corsets-UK.com Although they don’t offer as much as I’d like to see in the way of neutral colors, they’ve got an impressive selection of underbust, sweetheart and longline corsets suitable for almost all your waist-cinching occasions. By the way, if you’ve got a natural waist larger that 43″, you’re still probably safe going with a corset built for a smaller waist since fat is more malleable than bone. Just don’t go passing yourself out or doing anything dumb. OH! And they’re doing a buy-two-get-one-free promotion on almost all corsets, so if you and some friends (I’m thinking bridesmaids) want to go in on a group order together, this might be the time to do it. This long line underbust corset is for waist training. Personally, I don’t think waist training is a good idea because that stuff can mess with your ribs and lungs and other important parts of your body that should probably not be jostled around for the sake of a smaller waist. Still, there’s no harm in popping one on for a few hours if you’ve got a special event coming up, or if you need the extra control 24 steel bones provide. If you want to do an overbust corset and still be responsible WRT the chestular situation (no Platter O’ Boobs/Dish of Desperation) a deep sweetheart is the way to go. That way you can maneuver the gals to their upright and locked position without spilling over into “I couldn’t get a date in high school so please approve of me now” territory. No one looks good in that territory. There are TONS more corsets from the ridiculous (camouflage corset anyone?) to the sublime, but I’ve got to go throwdown with the old ladies over the best salmon so I’ll leave you to sort it out yourself. Good luck!

Lust-Have List: February 2012
February snucked up on me, hence the this list being tardy. Nonetheless, here is the list of things I’m lusting for this month of love. DV by Dolce Vita Tulle Sandals, $79, Piperlime – This bi-polar weather washing over the country has me looking and lusting for sandals earlier than usual. I mean, Valentine’s Day hasn’t even showed up, yet! These classic brown espadrille wedges would look perfect for spring and summer, even though it’s still technically winter. *rolls eyes* Flip Flop Fantasy Nail Polish, $8, China Glaze – This is the polish currently on my nails that I picked out at the salon this past weekend to go over my gel overlay. It’s bright , almost florescent coral and I’m so in love with it to the point that I think this will be my staple color this spring and summer. Sorry, neon pink. Parker Navajo Print Sequin Jacket, $418, Piperlime – So beautiful! I’m not even into Navajo print, because I can’t really pull off “bold and colorful” prints, at times. However, I would love to have this jacket to throw over all black ensembles, which I’ve been frequently slugging out and about in. Gorjana Fremont Bracelet, $50, ShopBop.com – Simple and chic and I love the mixing of the media. Love! Steven by Steve Madden ‘France’ Leather Tote, $198, Nordstrom – It’s a big blue tote. I already love it! Plus, it has clean lines and minimal details. Pretty fabulous and I need it. Stay Stylish!

Meanwhile, In the Dystopian Future
The Empress Ming the Merciless prepares to give birth to the new age of despotism! Indeed, the Manolo is only half joking, for as the more he watched the Madonna-tacular show of the halftime, the more he was struck by the unshakeable impression that this was the sort of Nuremberg Rally for the new age of crass narcissism aborning. Beginning with its imperial fanfare and militaristic pomp, progressing through the forced adoration of the Glorious Leader (L-U-V Madonna! L-U-V Madonna!), and culminating in her apotheosis as the goddess and chief priestess of her own cult of personality, Madonna was urging on us nothing less than her hegemonistic vision of the Madonna-based future. “My name is Madonna, queen of queens: Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!” Nothing beside remains. Round the decay Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare The lone and level sands stretch far away.

Kotur Margo Hicks Blue Valentine Clutch: Fine...
Tidbit about me: I’m a china collector. I actually collect it for friends; Kelly has a nice set from Tiffany’s I sent her every birthday and Christmas piece by piece (when she started receiving them, she asked, “What are you, my grandmother?” lol). I love a good China pattern! But never thought I’d love it on a bag. Until I saw this limited-edition box clutch from Kotur: Fiona hit the mark perfectly! It resembles precious porcelain in a way thats not kitschy or overboard. The vintage brocade fabric, in such a classic color combination, is sweet but not too dainty. And its the perfect fit for a bold adornment. The bright-red silken tassel makes a strong statement, delightfully throwing off the scale of this itty-bitty minaudiere. What makes it a true blue valentine? Not only does it have a semi-precious stone clasp and a crystal ball chain, its got a saucy surprise: a pair of hot lips. Thats the kiss-off for the latest addition to my China collection. At Kotur for $450. Pair with: Achieve the feel of lush romance with Valentinos scarlet sandal in plush velvet, ideal for a winters special date night. At Bergdorf Goodman for $695.
